I Knew Who I was

Jan 25th - 10th March 2015

this was a group show at the Free Space Gallery, Kentish Town Health Centre in London, negotiated by Liz Morison a colleague on the MFA course. Works were on show for 4 weeks.

Professional skills: Research; technical skills; collaboration.

Collaboration: It was very enjoyable  to collaborate with Nicole Price in experimenting in a different medium (textile printing and dying) for both of us, and discussing and developing ideas together.

The space is a 5 metre x 1.2 metre internal window with blind behind.

Research:  We felt we wanted to make a work which took into account that people may be in the waiting area so we developed an idea about generations and changing attitudes towards women's bodies and fashions and a work  which had interesting detail and tactility.

We also researched into local family firm of  ladies wear  "Blustons" which had recently closed after some 84 years.  We obtained two of the mannequins from the shop.

Technical skills : one issue was that we were not allowed to use strong fixings and the acceptable velcro tapes needed checking from time to time over the month of installation.
