PARK15

Park15 was a site specific event running May 8th-10th 2015 in Cannizaro Park London SW19 involving 12 artists with a variety of works responding to the site from sculpture to sound.

Collaboration: Working with Juliet Haysom was hugely useful as she had a wealth of knowledge and experience and was most generous with her time. Teamwork is absolutely essential when working over a massive acreage, for  technical and comfort reasons. In this park access to any services or refreshment were minimal without helpful interns/other artists.

Marketing/sponsorship:

I obtained £300 from three sponsors form local business who each gave £100 which went towards the cost of printing the map.  To do this I produced a sponsorship invitation  based on the previous year's press release, approved by curator Juliet Haysom.  I also obtained 5 cases of beer and one of wine for the PV which was a well attended event.

My sound installation "When I'm with you there's no place I'd rather be" was installed along one of the paths. In this show I learnt many useful things:

Professional skills: Research; experimentation; technical competence; marketing; communication; sustainability

Sound is very different outdoors and sound checking and on the spot re editing will be necessary as you live with the piece in situ.

Technical: This was the first Health and Safety submission I had prepared, which was important especially as it was in a public place.  Checking technical equipment and ensuring it was weatherproof  and secur. In addition to camouflage and height, I had bike locks and padlocks.

Sustainability: I had generous help and kindness from Abebaw at the Ethiopian church of St Mary Tsion in Battersea, and invited him to come to the installation in the Park. This kind of relationship building is vital a sustainable practice.
